The vegetarian mothers have more girls?

Even before she becomes pregnant, the diet of a woman of some importance for the future baby. And sometimes the effects can be quite unexpected: Vegetarian design easier ... girls!

Boy or girl? Classic question that haunts all parents early in pregnancy. And as the man does not like to rely on the laws of chance, couples have always looked for a way to influence the sex of the child. Where grandma remedies do not necessarily prove themselves, science could provide a solution.

"100 girls for 85 boys"

In fact, a British study has shown that dietary practices influence the sex of the future child. The authors of the study, Pauline Hudson and Rosemary Buckley, have indeed studied 5,942 pregnancies (Great Britain). Initially, their goal was to check the hemoglobin and iron deficiency in women, according to their diet. Their observations included 250 vegetarian mothers.

In the general population is born statistically a little more boys than girls (106 boys to 100 girls in England). However, the two scientists noticed that 55% of vegetarian mothers gave birth to female babies (85 boys to 100 girls). The results were similar in this study by including additional 150 vegetarian.

More milk and salt?

The influence of diet was mainly evaluated by a French researcher, Professor Joseph Stolkowski. He is the author of several studies on the subject, in animals and in humans, published in 1970 and 1980. According to him, to have a boy, it is necessary that the mother has a low calcium diet and high in sodium, that is to say poor dairy products and high in salt. Conversely, if it wants a girl, she must consume a lot of milk and cheese, and eat very little salt, all this several weeks before conception. These findings have been refuted by other studies and currently remain controversial.

In this case, they can not explain the findings of the UK study: vegetarian mothers do not eat a priori more salt or more dairy products.

Doped sperm to the salad?

The explanation of the influence of a vegetarian diet on the child's gender is unclear.

Theoretically, it would rather be the man to change his diet: it is his sperm that will decide the child's sex. Unless the mother's diet will affect the ability of some movement at the expense of others: "male" sperm would thus be more "slow down" in the uterus that their "feminine" counterparts. Unless this is the "female" who find themselves doped green vegetables?

Mothers do not plan to become vegetarian for girls: if pregnancy can happen smoothly under this regime, a balanced diet is indispensable.

Baby gender selection

Having a child is one of the most important decisions that couples can take. How to take care of it if the child is a girl? How should we plan for a son? These are pertinent questions that crop up in the minds of prospective parents when they try and conceive. Now though, with research and development in medicine, technology and practices, we have ways in which couples can pre-decide the gender oftheir future child. While not all things work, but still, research that has gone into it has proved worthwhile to say the least. The following are things that have worked to a certain degree:
  • Research shows that Mom-to-be’s who favour breakfast cereal and a potassium-rich diet delivered more boys than moms who skipped breakfast and took in fewer calories.
It's not certain whether the calories or the nutrients make the difference, although the association is one that is seen in other animals as well, with well-fed mothers giving birth to males and less well-fed mothers delivering females.
There are numerous other high-tech & low-tech methods in practice today for baby gender selection, a collection of which is shared below:

High-Tech Methods of Sex Selection

  • MicroSort®:
The MicroSort® process sorts sperm by male and female by a process that measures differences in the DNA. Then using an intrauterine insemination (IUI) or in vitro fertilization (IVF) the enriched sample of sperm is used to help conceive the appropriate sex child.
  • Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD):
This is the most effective technique in sex selection. With nearly 100% accuracy and the ability to select not only sex but a healthy embryo makes it very popular. This method uses in vitro fertilization and does biopsies on the embryos before they are returned to the uterus.
  • Shettles Method:
The Shettles Method is based on the fact that male and female sperm travel and survive in the reproductive tract for varying amounts of time. Intercourse is thus timed about 12 hours prior to ovulation for a boy and several days before ovulation for a girl.

Low-Tech Methods of Sex Selection

Methods to up the odds of conceiving a boy or a girl are plentiful. Many of these approaches suggest one or more of the following techniques. Whereas none of them are scientifically proven to be true, but still, they have in a number of instances produced results that merit further exploration, research and investment.
  • Timing intercourse closer to ovulation for a boy, further away for a girl - The reasoning is that the "girl" sperm (with X chromosomes) are hardier and the "boy" sperm (Y chromosomes) are more fragile, so having intercourse as close as possible to ovulation will give those Y chromosomes that determine maleness a fighting chance of meeting the egg.
  • Making the vaginal environment more hospitable to "girl" or "boy" sperm
  • Adopting various positions during intercourse. For instance, the missionary position is recommended for producing girls; rear-entry for boys.

It is a fascinating thing, deciding the sex of the child before birth, but couples around the world are increasingly using the methods described above to decide beforehand the sex of their future child(ren).

Can You Really Choose Your Baby's Gender?

Gender tricks, sex of baby

What You Need to Know Before You Conceive

Gender selection of children is a controversial topic, particularly in terms of genetic therapy and the ethics of picking the sex of your child. While there certainly have been advances in the field of genetics, there are actually some natural and completely ethical things that you can do that will increase the likelihood of selecting a gender for your child.

While no method is 100% accurate, if you are determined to have a boy or a girl, there are a few things that can be done to significantly increase your chances of conceiving the gender of your choice. Remember, the most important thing is to have a healthy baby, regardless of their gender. But if you do want to try to pick the gender of your child, it is possible. Here's what you need to know.

Differences in Sperm

The sperm that carry the Y chromosome are the "boy" sperms, while the ones that carry the X chromosome are the "girl" sperms. The Y sperm are faster, smaller, more agile but they do not last as long as the "girl" sperm. The X sperm are bigger and move quite slowly. In addition to their overall speed, they have different preferences in terms of the acidity of the vagina and cervix. An X sperm does better in an acidic environment while the Y sperm prefer an alkaline environment.

How These Differences Affect Conception

Now that we have established the differences between the sperm that carry different chromosomes, it is important to understand how these differences can be used for natural gender selection. Once you have this information, you can begin trying to conceive a child that will be a specific gender.
If you want to have a boy, the timing is crucial. Since these sperm do not live long, it is vital to time your intercourse as closely to ovulation as possible. This gives the Y sperm time to reach the egg before the X sperm do, increasing the chances that you will have a boy.

If you want to have a girl, you need to give the X sperm plenty of time to reach the egg. Since they live longer, this means that you want to time intercourse a few days before expected ovulation. By the time you ovulate, the Y sperm will have already died off, leaving only the X sperm behind. They will have the time needed to travel up through the cervix to reach the egg and fertilize it.
