Anti-psoriasis arms

Today, we don't always cure psoriasis. Doctors have symptomatic treatments transient results, but not yet definitively curative drugs. New compounds are available and others tomorrow will change the management of patients.

What are today psoriasis treatments and psoriasis solutions ? Better use of current treatments

Doctors now have three types of treatments:

  •  Local treatments (as an ointment, gel or cream) are very useful but can not be used properly if the psoriasis is not too large and changes little. If it exceeds 10% of the body surface, nearly half of patients stop treatment follow these binding after a month due to time constraints. The most commonly used local treatments are cortisone lotions and the derivatives of vitamin D. Both products are often combined. Retinoids can also be used. Side side effects, corticosteroids can cause skin atrophy and cause kickback of the disease. Derivatives of vitamin D have a mild irritant potential but cause no bounce off
  •  The phototherapy sessions are effective in many patients, but binding, because they must come to their dermatologist three times a week for 8 to 10 weeks to be irradiated in a medical cabin. These treatments can use either UVB or UVA in combination with photosensitizing drugs. The carcinogenic although limited risk must always be properly taken into account
  •    General treatment: they must be offered to all patients who have not been relieved by previous treatments. 30 to 40% of patients are affected. The treatment can be based on oral retinoids (often in combination with phototherapy 75% good results) or methotrexate, which is the reference drug (70% good results). Finally, cyclosporine is the most powerful general treatments. Because of its renal toxicity is avoided to give it more than a year in a row.

For the most part, psoriasis is red or pinkish patches of thick, raised, and/or dry skin. The most common areas affected are the scalp, elbows, and knees. Of courses, psoriasis is not picky, and it will gladly affect any area of the body it sees fit. Psoriasis is more likely to appear where there skin is injured. Areas of trauma, constant rubbing or scratching, and abrasions or scratches can cause flare-ups.
