When skin disease, Psoriasis and eczema destroy your life

Millions of people with psoriasis and 20 to 30% of them have severe cases with extensive lesions widely. Although treatments stabilize injuries and improve quality of life, affected people feel excluded.

If the success of treatment depends primarily on their rigorous observance, the impact of depression phases has disastrous consequences for the regular monitoring of these. The more the patient sees his moral fall, the more treatments seem tedious and unnecessary him. The upsurge of lesions does then aggravate his deep sense of exclusion.

Psoriasis between misunderstanding and exclusion. But psoriasis solutions exist !

If psoriasis rule is that this skin disease scares. This is what appears from a qualitative study conducted by Ipsos institute in fall 2010. Based on 20 telephone interviews including testimonials from patients and their families, the survey sets highlight the marginalization of patients.

Psoriasis isolation Defined by patients themselves as "modern plague", psoriasis is perceived as "a mysterious disease", "cure" and "multi-factor", which raises the concern of the entourage. Stigmatized, patients undergo the weight of the eyes of society, "I do not support people who subdue without saying a word, I prefer to ask me questions," said one young man.

The main fears contagion and the risk of transmission. Victim of the lack of information, psoriasis excludes gradually: "I was denied access to a swimming pool", "in the gym, it took me to come with full sticky if I did not return" "Beauty in the care we feel that is not for us" ...

Psoriasis also affects the working lives of people: some have had to accept sedentary duties or leave their jobs. Others, self-employed, do not suffer less the eyes of others. "Because I'm the boss, people leave me alone, we feel they are watching me, but without too much stress ... they know why!"

Guilt to depression

The disease is experienced as both an injustice and as inevitable. Misconceived as psychosomatic, it now seems essential to remember that if psychological factors such as stress, have a strong impact on this disease and are indeed able to trigger seizures, there is as much biological factors responsible for this disease. However, patients often live with the feeling of being responsible for the disease. The testimony describing this reality are many. "We do not understand why there are people who have psoriasis because of stress, and others also stressed that have nothing."

For many, "psoriasis is a disease of people with psychological or nervous fragility." The entourage between empathy and impotence is sometimes responsible for this process of guilt: "I do not know why she psoriasis is clearly incurable, but we do not know why either."

It is essential that the patient can speak about his illness in order to be better understood and accompanied by his entourage. Because depression is often associated with the disease. It is not uncommon for these patients to settle a vicious cycle where depression causes them to stop their treatment and in which the increase of injuries makes them more depressed. The dialogue and information are also an integral part of treatment to avoid as much fatalism and marginalization of sufferers.
